It’s been a hot minute since the Nissan Z Proto hit screens across the world, and boy did it hit. But now, already, talented graphic designers have already had their way with the new retro look of the Japanese sports car and we’ve been treated to an upgrade. The Z Proto has been transformed into the inevitable NISMO version, which is said to be coming a year or so after the next Z is released.
Kleber Silva is the designer behind these images, with a lot of the ideas behind the changes coming from the Nissan GT-R R35. The rear bumper specifically looks very similar, with a quad-exhaust and a diffusor, plus the iconic red striping that we see on all NISMO products. The rest of the bodykit features scatterings of carbon fibre, a set of lighter and simply gorgeous wheels, and a rather noticeable rear wing.

Once the new Z is actually released, because remember this isn’t the final product, the Japanese marque has confirmed that a faster version will follow it. What that means we have no idea, because we don’t even know the performance of this Proto Z yet, if we ever do. But there are rumours that it will be electrified and have an automatic transmission. While we’ll miss a manual gearbox, there’s no denying an auto ‘box would be faster, so we’ll let this one slide.
We expect the 400Z will boast around 400bhp – reflected in its name – and 350 pound-feet of torque, so it’s a good guess to think the NISMO will have substantially more than this. I’d love to find a GT-R engine tucked beneath the long bonnet of this RWD sports car, but that could be a long shot.
Maybe the NISMO could take the fight to the Toyota Supra? We’ll have to wait and see…
