Sung Kang Welcomes Another Project Car Into The Family – A Buick Grand National
Written by Alex Harrington

Sung Kang has welcomed another project car into the family. So without further ado, meet Buddy, a 1987 Buick Grand National. This retro American muscle car may look familiar, with it featuring in the fourth Fast & Furious film with Vin Diesel’s Toretto behind the wheel. Sung’s character Han never got to drive one, but it’s always been a bucket list car for the actor.

Beyond that, the Grand National was a change in gameplan for the American cars of that period, with the traditional high displacement V8 being swapped for a smaller 3.8-litre V6 accompanied by a turbocharger. But like similar cars of this period, the turbocharger wasn’t just there to make the engine more efficient. No, this engine’s number one priority was power.

It put 245 horsepower and 355 lb.-ft. of torque through an automatic gearbox to the rear wheels, allowing 0-60mph comes in at around 6 seconds. Not fast by today’s standards, but this car wouldn’t often be seen in the rearview mirror on its release.

Sung posted the post above saying the following:

Welcome to the family ‘Buddy’…Mike and his wife have known and cared for this Grand National since 1987. They were the first to drive it straight from the dealer. Been a real treat to hear how much he loved this car and all the adventures he and his wife experienced over the years. Great soul and origin to him. Buddy hasn’t seen the road since 2005. Lots to learn to get him back in fighting shape. Looking forward to this journey with Buddy. #1987grandnational#bucketlistcars
